What weld is mainly used for pipe welding?

Hi all. I start college in December studying welding i have a choice to make on the first day and its what weld do i want learn. Theres MIG, OXY and ARC im not sure which one to choose. I have plans to move to america with my wife (shes american) in the next 5 years or so and they do alot of pipe welding there and its generally the best paid Average 17-25 dollars ph. What is the main weld used for pipe welding and whats best for me? Thanks in advance

welding type is purely dependant on the material being welded. arc welding is the most popular for steel pipes etc. This is where you use a welding rod connected through a handle to the welding machine. In marine application this is used all over the place for 'sticking two bits of metal together'! it is the most versatile. It can be used for most things and so is probably the one you want to go for. Also, I would imagine your teachers at college would be able to point you in the rigth direction. To ask to speicialise before you know the differences between the types is a bit tough! I guess they would explain all that on day one, and then ask you which way you want to go!
