Welding of cast iron?

1 answer Reward0 Remaining Time 0 Day

I have a piano frame that has a 1/2 " crack in it, and it seems to affect the tone. I had it welded and the weld broke. Is there any way to fix this ?

Welding cast iron is probably one of the most difficult procedures. It has to be preheated, welded using short stitching welds peinning in between, then cooled very slowly to keep stresses from causing cracking. Finding welders who can do this is hard to do, brazing may work but finding guys that can do that is equally difficult. Good luck.
