First is uniform strength; welded joints have greater strength than the base metal in all directions.
Second is simplicity; welded piping systems do not allow for all the modifications and afterthoughts that threaded and soldered couplers tempt people with.
Third is sanitation; ice cream or beer could be tainted by bacteria that forms in and around threaded pipe joints. Welded piping systems outlast all other piping systems due in part to uniform cross-section. I know that's a fourth reason but welders can't count.
