Most welding programs have multiple levels of training. For example, you would start off learning the basics of stick, Mig, Tig, brazing, etc. All of that might be a single term at a good community college. Then there are advanced training classes which depending on where you wanted to work, you might need those.
Are there jobs? Yes if you look for them. They are everywhere.
As for being a girl, there is no place in the workplace for girl versus boy. You need to be able to do the job. It is not personal, it is a job. However, there are a bunch of rude and crude jerks out there and learning how to handle them is what it will take. In all cases though, even if you like where you are working, you must continue training and learning. Never settle for where you are. Never stop learning. Never stop trying to be better tomorrow than you are today. Be somebody that an employer wants to hire and you will find plenty of opportunities.
