When was pulse wave created for TIG (gtaw) welding?

Hello,

I have been shopping for a TIG and I have read and seen a bit about pulse welding. I am planning on welding aluminum and I feel it would be great to understand this idea as well as possible. I am curious about it's creation and initial use on the TIG market. Like, was it created 20 years ago and started being heavily used 15 years ago or something like that? How important or useful is it in welding aluminum? I have googled around for this information so maybe some folks here can give me some wisdom.

Thanks!

A welding procedure specification is the receipt that tells the welder how to make the weld. It is the written description of the design of the weld. It sets out things, like the base material to be welded, preheat, the material for each welding pass, shielding method, the electrical set up for the weld, welding position, any post weld heat treatment. The welding performance quality record is the record kept for each welder or operator who wants to be qualified to make welds using the procedure specification. It covers when the test was made, the details of the procedure used and the results of the weld samples tested.
