Welding 3/16 steel brackets?

1 answer Reward0 Remaining Time 0 Day

What would be a good welder to weld 3/16 steel? Want to start messing around with a welder so I can learn to do my own projects.

If that's the thickest steel you plan to weld, a 110 volt will do nicely. the duty cycle is important, try to find one with 20% duty cycle if its in your price range, no less than 15%. dont buy a cheep chinese make, as they have aluminum windings. you want one with copper windings. you will also want one outfitted for shielding gas (argon/co2 mix). the flux cored wire does not do a very clean weld. arc welders are very affordable, but you will be much happier with a mig. if you do get an arc, make sure it has DC.
