    Short explanantion of hot shortness This is a form of solidification cracing during casting operations related to the formation of iron sulfide low melting point consituents. Addition of Manganese decreases this phenomenon by combining with iron and forming more stable manganese sulfides since manganese has a hgher affinity for combining with sulfur than iron does.
