Trailer welding arc or mig?

1 answer Reward0 Remaining Time 0 Day

So i want to replace the perimeter of my flat bed trailer. I am doing this because the previous owner put way to small angle iron around the perimeter. So the question is would a 110 mig be sufficient to make the welds. The sides are used to tie down the atv I haul.

I use a Miller 135 110v mig welder to weld 1/4 to 1/4 and 1/8. I use .035 flux core self shielded mig wire. I had no good results with the er70s-6 wire with shielding gas on the 110 volt unit. It is most important to sand or grind the surfaces your welding to remove mill scale and rust. Do some test welds and try to break them in a vise. I can blow holes through 1/4" material easily with the flux core wire. The 110 volt welder will trip a 15 amp breaker if you weld more than 4 inches at a time, since they are designed for 20 amp circuits.
