Cemented carbide is determined by Rockwell and Rockwell method due to its high hardness.


1. Rockwell hardness testing method of cemented carbide


1) Adopt HRA scale.


2) The thickness of the sample is not less than 1.6 mm, the surface roughness Ra2μm, and the thickness of the surface of the sintered sample is 0.2 mm. If it is a curved surface, its radius of curvature shall not be less than 15 mm. If the radius of curvature is less than 15 mm, prepare a detection plane with a width of at least 3 mm on the sample. The plane of the specimen should be parallel to the supporting surface, and the parallelism should not be greater than 0.1/10 mm.


3) The reading accuracy of the hardness tester can measure 0.2 HRA or 0.1 HRA. Check with a standard block, and its indication error should not exceed ±0.5 HRA.


4) During detection, the control of the main detection force should be completed within 6-8s. Keep the main detection force for no more than 2s, and remove the main detection force within 2s. The distance between two adjacent indentation centers and the distance between the indentation centers and the edge of the sample shall not be less than 1.5 mm.


5) At least 3 or more data should be tested for a single sample. See the table below for the rounding of the hardness value.
