Cemented carbide is determined by Rockwell and Vickers method due to its high hardness.

1. Vickers hardness test method of cemented carbide
The hardness of cemented carbide should generally be tested by Rockwell hardness A scale. When the thickness of the part or sample is less than 1.6 mm, the Vickers method can be used for testing.

1) The thickness of the sample should not be less than 1 mm. The thickness of the surface is more than 2μm. If it is a curved surface, a flat surface should be processed for testing.

2) The hardness tester should meet the requirements of GB/T 4340.2-1999. The accuracy of the indentation diagonal measuring device should meet: d<100μm is ±0.2μm, 100μm≤d<200μm is ±0.1μm, 294.2N (30 kgf) is recommended, if the sample thickness is less than 1 mm, it can be less than 294.2 Detection force below N force value.

3) The distance between the centers of two adjacent indentations should not be less than 3d, and the distance from the center of the indentation to the edge of the sample should not be less than 2.5d.

3. Test method for Rockwell hardness of tungsten carbide steel bonded cemented carbide

1) Detect with HRC or HRA ruler.

2) The thickness of the sample in the annealed state shall not be less than 1.5 mm, and the low-temperature tempering state after quenching or quenching shall not be less than 0.1 mm.

3) The distance between the centers of two adjacent indentations during testing shall not be less than 2.0 mm. The distance from the center of any indentation to the edge of the sample shall not be less than 1.5 mm.

4) When the hardness value of the sample is below 40 HRC, at least 5 points are measured for each sample; when the hardness value is above 40 HRC, at least 3 points are measured for each sample.

5) Take the arithmetic average of the results as the hardness value of the sample.
