Mold production is one-piece production. The forging method of die tools forgings should be free forging, and the forging equipment used is an air hammer or a steam-air hammer. Whether the choice of forging hammer tonnage is reasonable or not directly affects the quality of forgings, forging productivity and the life of forgings. If the tonnage of the forging hammer is too small, the forging impact energy will be insufficient, resulting in the forging that is not deep and impermeable. The forging will only be deformed on the surface, and the quality of the core of the forging will not be improved or even deteriorated. If the tonnage of the forging hammer is too large, the blow will be too heavy and forging cracks will easily occur. Therefore, in order to obtain excellent forgings, a forging hammer with sufficient energy should be selected to perform multi-directional repeated forging with sufficient deformation to control the quality of forgings. For high-alloy die tools steels, repeated upsetting and drawing should be carried out to give full play to the performance of the die tools material and lay a solid foundation for obtaining high-quality and long-life die tools.

For high alloy die tools steel forgings, the tonnage of the forging hammer can be selected according to Table 1-41. If low-alloy steel is forged, the weight or size of the forging can be selected by one-fold increase.
