Anyone who has done “wire cutting” processing of cemented carbide will have an experience. Even during the cutting process, they have been worried about cracking of cemented carbide (especially large pieces of cemented carbide). The fundamental reason for this phenomenon is the uneven "internal energy" of the cemented carbide, which is caused by partial release in a short time. In order to avoid or try to avoid the occurrence of "fracture phenomenon", the understanding, cooperation and coordination of both producers and users are required. We recommend the following:

1. As a cemented carbide producer, based on the low thermal conductivity of cemented carbide, the accumulated energy (internal stress) is difficult to release in a short period of time. When sintering large cemented carbide and afterwards, it needs to be hardened by wire cutting. In the case of high-quality alloys, the heating and cooling rate should be slowed down as much as possible within the allowable technical range, and the high temperature holding time should be extended as much as possible.

2. Take the initiative to avoid risks, try to avoid the phenomenon of urgent ordering and cutting immediately, and let the hard composite products undergo natural aging for a period of time in the open or indoor ground. It is recommended 1 to 2 months.

3. Before wire cutting, the large plane or cylindrical surface of the cemented carbide products should be rough-grinded, and then left for a few days for cutting; if it can be rough-grinded before natural aging, it is more secure. 4. Units with conditions can also cold-process the cemented carbide (0℃~10℃) for 24 hours and then perform wire cutting.

In short, the main point is to release the internal energy as much as possible to the minimum before cutting the cemented carbide, so as not to let it form destructive force.
