The output of China's tungsten carbide industry increased by 11.59% in 2018

       Tungsten carbide is a kind of alloy material which is made of hard compound of refractory metal and binder metal by powder metallurgy process. With high elastic modulus, high strength, high hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, impact resistance, low thermal expansion coefficient and room temperature and a series of excellent properties, such as high chemical stability is known as the "teeth" industry, used in the manufacture of cutting tools, cutting tools, drilling tools and wear-resistant parts, widely used military-industrial complex, aviation, machinery, metallurgy, oil drilling, mining tools, electronic communications, construction, etc.

Worldwide, cemented carbide industry is a mature market, the main manufacturers in China, the United States, Europe, Japan and other countries and regions. In recent years, the industry competition is very fierce, and the global cemented carbide production is growing steadily. It is estimated that in 2015, the global cemented carbide production is about 70,000 tons, with a year-on-year growth of 2%. China is the world's largest producer of cemented carbide, which accounts for about 38 percent of global output.

From 2000 to 2007, the output of cemented carbide in China increased steadily year by year, from 8,189 tons per year in 2000 to 16,500 tons per year in 2007, with a compound annual growth rate of 10.53%. During the period from 2007 to 2009, affected by the global economic crisis, China's output of cemented carbide remained stable, with an annual output of about 16,500 tons. From 2010, China's tungsten carbide industry began to recover gradually. From 2010 to 2018, the industry showed a rising trend of fluctuation, with an annual compound growth rate of 7.25%. In 2018, China's tungsten carbide production was 38,500 tons, with a year-on-year growth of 11.59%.

Since 2005, the output and export volume of China's cemented carbide have shown a steady growth trend, except that the output and export volume of individual years declined slightly. From 2009 to 2018, the export volume of cemented carbide products in China showed a rapid growth trend. The export volume of cemented carbide increased from 3,347 tons in 2009 to 9,246.45 tons in 2018, with an annual compound growth rate of 11.95%.

In 2018, the output of China's cemented carbide industry ranked top 10 enterprises, accounting for 60.84 percent of the total output of China's cemented carbide industry, industry concentration is high. But it has not yet been established between the industry's evolution mechanism and to prevent unfair competition mechanism, cemented carbide enterprises development and perfection blindly rigid products still exist in the phenomenon of low level repeated construction, the technical progress of industry, and weaken the development ability of high-end, high value-added products, the future high-end, high added value of the intensity of the cemented carbide products will further increase.
