Applied Welding is a beginner's introductory class in welding. It usually applies to students under different studies than welding but is used as a required elective. The college that I attended offered this at night from 5-8 p.m. two times a week. 90% of the class involves shop safety and a lot of classroom discussion followed by testing. After that students would learn to oxy-fuel weld. Most had no experience or desire to excel so that's what they'd still be doing at the end of the quarter. A rare few would advance to SMAW (stick welding.) If you have a desire to become a professional welder, you need to let the instructor know so that you can go into the full welding program.
