Stitch welding is very similar to a sewing machine and it is a good technique for lower skilled or amature welders. The electrode or wire goes up and down like a sewing machine needle and controlled by a wire speed dial and a timer. Using the proper combination of amperage, wire speed and timing the electrode goes down just long enough to cause a puddle of a required size and then goes up just long enough to cool. As its cooling the welder operator move the torch about a half a puddle and repeats over and over to get a professional looking weld with only limited experience. A professional welder uses a similar approach, but without the aide of a stitch mode. Hope this was helpful.
