    That depends on how knowledgeable you want to be. Whether you want to be a part of actually 'getting dirty' and welding for a living or be more on the engineering side of welding. If you want to be welding, going through a welding union or pipefitters union will give you some skills. There are also many local technical schools that are searchable via web. If you want higher education, where you could become a welding technician or a welding engineer, you will need to go to a college. Many smaller, local colleges can offer an Associates degree in Welding Technology. If you want to go even further, there are not many places to do that. The two largest Bachelors degree programs in the nation are at Ferris State University in Michigan and Ohio State University. Ohio State University is currently the only school in the United states that offers a Masters and currently a Doctorate in Welding Engineering.
