The main components of WC-Co cemented carbide are WC and binder cobalt (Co). The grade is composed of "YG" (the initial Chinese pinyin of the two characters "hard" and "cobalt") and the percentage of the average cobalt content. For example, YG8 represents a WC-Co cemented carbide with a cobalt content of 8% and the remainder of WC. WC-Co cemented carbide is equivalent to the K-type cemented carbide in the ISO standard.

 

     WC-Co cemented carbide, as a commonly used cutting tool brand, is mainly brave in processing cast iron, non-ferrous metals and their alloys, and non-metallic materials. When machining cast iron, the chips are broken, the tool bears a great impact, and the cutting force and cutting heat are concentrated near the blade and tip. The thermal conductivity of WC-Co alloys is good, which is conducive to the loss of cutting heat from the tool tip, reduces the tool tip temperature, and avoids overheating and softening of the tool tip. WC-Co alloys have high bending strength and impact toughness, which can reduce chipping during cutting. When processing non-ferrous metals and their alloys, because the metals and their alloys will not dissolve with WC or the dissolution rate is slow at the melting temperature, WC-Co cemented carbide can effectively process non-ferrous metals and their alloys.

WC-Co cemented carbide has good grinding properties and can grind sharp edges. It is the most commonly used cemented carbide cutting blade and is suitable for processing non-ferrous metals and fiber composite materials. When the cobalt content of WC-Co cemented carbide is higher, its bending strength and impact toughness are better, especially the fatigue strength is improved, so it is suitable for rough machining under shock and vibration conditions; cobalt content When it is lower, the hardness of cemented carbide is higher, and its wear resistance and heat resistance are higher, and it is suitable for continuous cutting finishing operations.
