Many people have heard of spray powder and
spray welding powder. So what's the difference between the two? What's the
difference in technology? Today we talk about the difference between spraying
and spray welding.

Key points of flame spraying / spray
welding process

1. Understand the performance of the
workpiece itself: such as material, composition, surface condition, wear parts
and wear area, depth, etc.

2. Understand the working conditions of the
workpiece: working environment (working temperature, main medium concentration
and other components), stress condition (impact load or sliding fit, static
fit), failure reason (machining tolerance, wear, corrosion, etc.).

The process differences between spraying
coat and welding coat are as follows:

①     The results show that the bonding between the
spraying coat and the base metal is different. The exothermic chemical reaction
occurs when the nickel clad aluminum is heated by the spray flame beam. The
micro metallurgical bonding coating is formed on the surface of carbon steel
with rust removal up to SA3 and RZ > 50 μ m, and the mechanical bonding
coating with "anchor hook" effect is produced between the bottom
layer and the working layer. The bonding between the spray welding layer and
the base metal is purely metallurgical bonding coating.

②     Spraying coat materials are different, welding
coat requires the use of self fluxing alloy powder, while spraying coat does
not require high self fluxing of powder, and it is not necessarily self fluxing
alloy powder. All kinds of self fluxing alloy powder can be used for spray
welding and spraying, but spraying powder does not have self fluxing, it can
only be used for spraying, but not for spray welding process.

③     In the process of spraying  coat and welding coat, the preheating
temperature before spraying is different, the heating effect of workpiece is
different, and the microstructure and properties of workpiece after spraying
are also different.

④     The welding coat layer is dense, but there are
a few pores in the spray coating.

The ability to bear load is different.
The spray coating can bear large area contact, and is mostly used on the
working surface with lubrication conditions, the mating surface and other
working conditions with less stress. However, the spray welding coating can
bear larger impact force, extrusion stress or contact stress.
