Brief introduction to the properties of tungsten carbide powder:

Tungsten carbide powder is dark gray with metallic luster and hardness similar to diamond. It is a good conductor of electricity and heat. It has a melting point of 2870°C and a relative density of 15.63. It is mainly used for the production of cemented carbide. Tungsten carbide is insoluble in water, hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid, but easily soluble in mixed acid of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid. Pure tungsten carbide is fragile, if a small amount of titanium, cobalt and other metals are added, the brittleness can be reduced. Tungsten carbide is used as a steel cutting tool, and titanium carbide, tantalum carbide or their mixture is often added to improve the anti-knock ability. Tungsten carbide is chemically stable. Tungsten carbide has insufficient resistance to high-temperature oxidation. When the temperature reaches 500°C-800°C, it is easily oxidized and decomposed into W2C and carbon in the air. This problem can be pre-protected tungsten carbide particles by using heat-resistant and oxidation-resistant metal as a coating layer or binder phase. It can also be solid solution with TaC, TIC, etc. to form composite carbides to improve the heat and oxidation resistance of tungsten carbide. Tungsten carbide is still stable when heated to 2850 degrees Celsius in Ar atmosphere, and will not be affected in high-temperature nitrogen.

Tungsten carbide applications and uses:

1. It is widely used as high-speed cutting tools, kiln structure materials, jet engine parts, cermet materials, resistance heating elements, etc.

2. Used to manufacture cutting tools, wear-resistant parts, melting crucibles for metals such as copper, cobalt, and bismuth, and wear-resistant semiconductor films.

3. Used as super-hard tool material and wear-resistant material. It can form a solid solution with many carbides. Tungsten carbide-TiC-Co cemented carbide tools have been widely used.

4. As a modified additive of NbC-C and TaC-C ternary system carbides, it can not only reduce the sintering temperature, but also maintain excellent performance, and can be used as aerospace materials.
