Self fluxing alloy powder refers to the alloy powder containing Si, B and other alloy powders with strong deoxidation and slagging ability. In laser cladding, it preferentially reacts with the oxygen in the coating material and the oxide on the substrate surface to form borosilicate with low melting point floating on the surface of the molten pool, so as to reduce the oxygen content and slag inclusion of the cladding layer and improve the wettability and process formability of the substrate and coating.

One of the differences between spraying and surfacing is that the powder used is different. Surfacing requires the use of self fusible alloy powder, while spraying does not require high self fusibility of powder. Various self fusible alloy powders can be used for surfacing and spraying. However, the powder without self fusibility can only be used for spraying, not for surfacing process.

The overburden structure is different. The surfacing layer is uniform and dense, and it is generally considered that there are no pores, while the spraying layer has pore defects.
