High Velocity oxygen fuel spraying was successfully developed by Browning company in the United States in the early 1980s, and was first launched with Jet-kote as a commodity. After several years of application and development, the advantages of this method are gradually recognized and accepted. Therefore, developed countries in the world have invested a lot of financial resources in the research and development of HVOF. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, several HVOF spraying systems were successfully developed and put into the market. For example, diamond jet, top gun, CDs, J-gun, etc.

Working principle of supersonic flame spraying: the liquid entering the combustion chamber from the small hole, such as kerosene, is ignited after being atomized and mixed with oxygen, resulting in strong gas-phase reaction. The heat energy released by combustion makes the product expand violently. When the expanded gas flows through the Laval nozzle, it is constrained by the nozzle to form a supersonic high-temperature flame. This flame stream heating accelerates the spraying material to the substrate surface to form a high-quality coating.
