Recently, a customer contacted wococarbide and said that the powder purchased from us last time did not meet the standard. It is pointed out that the element content of Ni in the powder is too low. Our company wococarbide attaches great importance to it, and we immediately investigate and analyze the retained samples. By comparing EDX test method with ICP method, we concluded that the powder was up to standard. So why does the customer's test result show that our powder does not meet the requirements. Because the customer only uses EDX analysis method, we use EDX analysis, EDX coating analysis and ICP analysis. Finally, a comprehensive conclusion is drawn. Then, we compared energy spectrum (EDX) and ICP detection methods.



EDX is an element analysis based on different characteristic X-ray energy emitted. The signal used is that the high-speed moving electron beam bombards the sample surface, and the electrons collide with the atomic nucleus and outer electrons of the element for one or more elastic and inelastic collisions. Some electrons are reflected out of the sample surface, and the rest penetrate into the sample, gradually lose their kinetic energy, and finally be stopped and absorbed by the sample. In this process, more than 99% of the incident electron energy is transformed into heat energy, and only about 1% of the incident electron energy excites various signals from the sample. The EDX test results are related to the surface state of the sample. The flat surface test results are close to the actual content, and the non flat surface test results are greatly different from the actual content.



ICP is to detect the chemical composition and content according to the characteristic radiant energy (different spectra) emitted by the radiation transition when the outer electrons return from the excited state to the ground state after the gaseous atoms (or ions) in the sample material are excited. The detection method is to dissolve the powder sample through the solution, completely dissolve the measured elements into the solution, and detect the overall chemical content. Therefore, the accuracy of ICP detection method is higher.
