There are two kinds of chrome plating, one is decorative plating and the other is hard chrome plating. What people usually talk about is spraying instead of hard chrome plating. First of all, my personal opinion is that spraying instead of hard chrome plating is suitable for some products, such as: mirror rollers, piston rods, valves, etc., but not all products, the existence of each technology has its own unique Advantages and application areas, and advocating "spraying instead of electroplating" is just a biased point of view.



Compared with spraying, the biggest advantage of electroplating is not efficiency and quality, but price. The price of electroplating is really cheap compared to spraying. Many people may say that the price is cost-effective. As a spraying industry, I of course think that the cost-effectiveness of spraying is very high, but in terms of one-time costs, the price of spraying is electroplating. 5 times or more. Some spraying companies claim to have developed some special coatings to replace electroplating, but how much advantage does the price have over electroplating? I can tell all customers who want to try spraying to replace the existing hard chrome plating. At present, the most suitable and cheapest method is spraying nickel-based alloys, and some spraying companies always recommend customers to use tungsten carbide coatings. In most working conditions , Replacing electroplating with sprayed tungsten carbide is "killing a chicken with a knife".



The hardness of hard chrome plating is about HRC60, and sprayed nickel-based alloys can fully achieve such hardness. Secondly, the thickness of the sprayed coating can be much larger than the thickness of chrome plating. In this case, unless the working conditions are very bad, it is completely It is not necessary to spray the tungsten carbide coating. Under the banner of "replacement of electroplating", many companies are doing very ordinary processing, thinking that they are innovative, but in fact they are grandstanding.



In my opinion, the innovation of the spraying industry does not mean replacing any technology, but solving some problems that could not be solved before, or developing some new materials to reduce the previous high spraying cost.



So far, the author has met customers from all walks of life and encountered various needs. At present, the domestic manufacturing industry has high cost and low profit. It is hoped to use spraying technology, but the high cost of spraying industry restricts the promotion and application of technology. In terms of the most commonly used mirror rollers, the price of chrome plating and spray coating with the same effective thickness is at least 5 times that of electroplating. Grinding tungsten carbide coatings requires diamond grinding wheels, and polishing requires diamond abrasive belts. All these bring increase the cost of coating processing. After all processing, a mirror roller of tungsten carbide is 8-10 times higher than the price of electroplating.



The innovation of the spraying industry is not so much the innovation of the industry as the innovation of the Chinese manufacturing industry. The spraying technology is the auxiliary technology of the manufacturing industry. The manufacturing industry needs to be upgraded. added value. We must find ways to reduce costs and provide manufacturing with inexpensive and reasonably efficient surface solutions. However, some chaos in the industry always makes the author unable to resist. Without understanding the needs of customers, he blindly recommends customers to spray tungsten carbide. However, there are many kinds of tungsten carbide, and the author has sprayed at least 5 different types. of tungsten carbide based powders, each of which is highly targeted. For the customer's product, the coating is good medicine when used correctly, and poison when used incorrectly. I don't think trial and error is a mistake, but doing it without knowing the actual conditions is a mistake. Innovation requires us in the industry to practice more internal skills, enrich technical knowledge, understand the latest product applications, update equipment, reduce costs and improve quality.
