Cold spray technology is a new type of surface coating technology developed in the past 20 years. In the mid-to-late 1980s, AN Papyrin, a researcher at the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of the Russian Academy of Science in Novosibirisk, and his colleagues were using tracer particles to perform supersonic measurements. In wind tunnel tests, it was found that when the speed of the tracer particles exceeds a certain critical speed, the effect of the tracer particles on the surface of the target material changes from erosion to deposition. Therefore, the concept of cold spraying was proposed in 1990, and the first article was published. For the thesis on cold spray, the first cold spray patent was applied. Subsequently, they conducted cold spraying experiments on various metal and alloy particles on the surface of workpieces of different materials and successfully achieved deposition, thus laying the foundation for cold spraying from theory to reality.

The influence of Russian scientists' ground-breaking work in the field of cold spraying has continued to expand, and has been highly valued by their American counterparts. In 1994, the inventor of cold spray technology, AN Papyrin, etc. came to the United States, and cooperated with American counterparts to obtain government and business support, by Ford Motor, General Motors, General Electric-Aircraft Engines and Several well-known companies such as Pratt & Whiteney Division of United Technologies have jointly established a special cold spraying laboratory. On this basis, the cold spray technology was further improved, and in the same year, it obtained a US patent and a European patent in 1995. At the same time, in 1995, 1996 and 1997, the research results of cold spraying were published at the National International Thermal Spraying Conference held in the United States. In 2000, a special seminar was organized for the first time at the International Thermal Spraying Conference held in Canada. The 2002 German HVOF conference and the 2002 American International Thermal Spraying Conference further established that cold spraying has become an important branch of the spraying field. Since then, cold spraying has become a research hotspot. A large number of research results have been published in international journals and related conferences. These results include airflow simulation, process optimization and equipment improvement, combined mechanism research, development of new coating materials, and expansion of application fields. and other extensive content. At present, some universities and scientific research institutions in China, the United States, Germany, Canada, Japan, France, South Korea, Australia and other countries have carried out research on cold spraying technology, and there are cold spraying equipment manufacturing companies in Germany, the United States, South Korea and other countries that sell commercial cold spraying. equipment.
