In the production of thermal spraying, strong light, arc light, noise, dust, etc. will be generated, which will cause damage to the operator's eyes, skin, ears and respiratory system. Operators must be protected during spraying operations.

1. Eye protection

A helmet must be worn and a face shield or goggles in hand to protect the eyes during the entire blasting and spraying period. Operators must wear eyepieces that protect against infrared and ultraviolet radiation, as well as protection from flying particles. Appropriate eye protection should also be available for all assistants and nearby operators. Helmet, hand mask or separate goggles should be equipped with suitable color filter lenses to prevent excessive infrared, ultraviolet and strong visible light radiation to the eyes, and the depth of the lenses should be suitable for protection and observation.

2. Protection of the respiratory system

Respiratory protection should be provided to the operator during blasting and spraying. The selection of facilities can be determined according to the nature, amount, type of smoke and whether there is ventilation under actual working conditions. When spraying non-toxic materials indoors and sandblasting in a sandblasting box, there should be a good ventilation device, and flame spraying should be carried out in the open air. If the dust is not large, a dust mask should be used. When thermal spraying is performed indoors, when the mask cannot block the dust, a mechanical filter respirator (containing activated carbon) should be used. When blasting in the open air or in the workshop, wear a protective helmet, and let fresh and dry air flow into the helmet with a flow rate of not less than 0.17m3/min. When spraying highly toxic materials, in addition to wearing protective helmets, two sets of the same air source system should be prepared for emergency use. Respiratory system protection facilities used by special personnel are not cleaned and disinfected, and should not be used interchangeably.

3. Hearing protection

When sandblasting or spraying, ear protectors or suitable soft rubber earplugs should be worn to prevent noise damage to the operator's hearing.

4. Body protection

Appropriate spraying, sandblasting clothing and labor protection leather shoes should be selected according to the size of the spraying workload and construction conditions. When there is no special spraying clothing and labor protection leather shoes, welder clothes and leather protection shoes can be used. In addition, when spraying toxic materials in the workshop, special safety measures should be taken, and the clothes and respiratory protection equipment used by the operator should be changed every day. When clothing and respiratory protection are reused, they must be completely removed from toxic metal dust and other materials before use. Arc spray and plasma spray operators should wear insulated gloves when handling the spray gun.
