The radial feed, also known as the grinding depth, has a great influence on the dimensional accuracy, surface roughness, durability of the grinding wheel and grinding efficiency of the grinding surface. Table 7-7 is the test data of grinding the inner hole of Ni60 spray coating with green silicon carbide grinding wheel, and the radial feed amount is different. When the radial feed is equal to 0.006mm/s double stroke, the grinding efficiency and the durability of the grinding wheel have been greatly reduced, and obvious vibration will occur, and the surface roughness will be deteriorated. Therefore, the radial feed for grinding the inner hole of the spray coating is much smaller than that for grinding hardened steel.

Selection principle of radial feed: When the processing requirements are higher, the rigidity of the process system is smaller, and the hardness of the thermal spray coating is higher, the radial feed should be smaller. Generally, cylindrical grinding fr=0.005mm/dst~0.015mm/dst (mm/double stroke); internal grinding fr=0.002mm/dst~0.01/dst; surface grinding ft=0.005/dst~0.02mm/dst.

The grinding method is good in ensuring the high requirements of dimensional accuracy and surface roughness, but the main problem is the low productivity. Especially for grinding thermal spray coatings, the radial feed is very small, and the productivity is naturally unsatisfactory to complete the grinding with a certain thickness allowance.
