The core of the technology is that the plasma torch consists of three parallel mutually insulated cathodes and several anode nozzles connected in series by insulating rings. Only the nozzle on the insulating ring closest to the cathode works as the anode. There are two guns available now, Triplex II from SuIzer Meteo and Axial III from Mettech.

Advantages of Triple Cathode Plasma Guns:

    (1) The single arc of the original single cathode is divided into three arcs, which reduces the possibility of the nozzle and the cathode being burnt due to overheating, that is, prolongs the life of the nozzle and the cathode.

    (2) Since each of the three cathodes is at an offset position from the anode, there is a short distance. According to the principle of "minimum enthalpy requires minimum arc length", there is only one corresponding anode arc root for each cathode tip. The circumferential movement and axial movement of the anode arc root maintain the stability of the arc.

   (3) In order to avoid the influence of the powder feeding airflow on the arc stability, the method of feeding powder from the center of the spray gun (such as Axial III of Mettech, Canada) is adopted. In this way, the deposition efficiency of powder can be greatly improved, and the coating of the same area and thickness only takes half the time compared with conventional plasma spraying. It can be seen that its work efficiency is very high, and it is superior for spraying large workpieces or large batches of components. Sex is more prominent. Since the arc is stable, the noise is also lower than the 120dB of conventional plasma spraying, which is only about 90dB.
