Plasma is the fourth state of matter after solid, liquid, and gas. Definition: Part or all of the gas is ionized to form a conductor with equal numbers of positive and negative ions (electrons) and a neutral overall. It is a scientific term describing those gaseous substances that have a higher energy level than ordinary gaseous substances when heated.

To change from ordinary gas to plasma, the gas must be ionized. The ionization process is to dissociate the gas molecules into single atoms under the condition of sufficient energy to the gas, and then the monatomic gas is ionized into positive and negative ions (electrons). In this way, the gas that was originally insulating is filled with charged particles, and thus becomes a conductor, which can flow a large current. But the plasma as a whole is still electrically neutral, with equal numbers of positive and negative charges.
