The following methods are often used to remove rust or corrosion products.

    1) Chemical rust removal

Also known as "etching", pickling". The principle is to use an acidic (or alkaline) solution to chemically react with the rust layer on the metal surface to dissolve and peel off the surface rust layer. This method is often used for small or complex shaped workpieces. For rust removal, and according to different metal materials and different rust degrees, different chemical rust removal solutions and methods should be used.

    2) Sandblasting (pellet) rust removal

This method is the most commonly used rust removal method at present. Sand blasting (pellet) rust removal can also achieve the purpose of surface roughening and surface activation. It has the characteristics of one method and multiple uses, but in thermal spraying applications The rust removal sand and the roughening sand should be separated to avoid contamination of the roughening sand and affect the quality of the spray coating.

    3) Flame rust removal

The workpiece is heated with an oxygen-acetylene flame, and the oxide skin is peeled off by using the different thermal expansion coefficients of steel and oxide skin. This method is suitable for thick steel components and large castings, but not for thin-walled parts and small castings, otherwise the workpiece will be thermally deformed and the quality will be affected.

In addition, there are electrochemical rust removal, rolling rust removal and manual rust removal.
