Silicon carbide contains C30% (mass), Si70% (mass), in addition to the characteristics of high melting point (2450 ℃) and high hardness, its outstanding feature is the small thermal expansion coefficient (4.9X10-6K-1 (24 ℃ ~ 1360℃)), high thermal conductivity (41.87W·m-1·K-1 (20℃~425℃)), its thermal conductivity is 2.5 times that of stainless steel and 10 times that of refractory clay. High temperature resistance is particularly good, can withstand high temperature to its decomposition temperature (2300 ℃), and still maintain its strength. It is seriously oxidized when heated to 1400 ℃ ~ 1700 ℃ in air, and destroyed by erosion when heated to 1350 ℃ in hydrogen; it is very stable in N2.

Suitable for use as heat resistant wear coatings such as rocket nozzles, combustion chambers, arresters, etc.

Coatings can be prepared by spraying processes such as atmospheric plasma spraying, vacuum plasma spraying, supersonic flame spraying and explosive spraying.
