Iron-based self-fluxing alloy powders are divided into two categories; stainless steel types and high chromium cast iron types. Stainless steel self-fluxing alloys are made by adding B and Si to austenitic stainless steel, so that the coating has high wear resistance, corrosion resistance and heat resistance; there are a lot of carbides and boron in the high chromium cast iron alloy coating. The hardness and wear resistance of the coating are higher, but the brittleness is increased.

Iron-based self-fluxing alloy coatings have high wear resistance and certain corrosion resistance. Compared with nickel and cobalt, iron is easy to oxidize, has high melting point, poor process performance, and poor coating performance. It is used in the strengthening and repair of various shafts, box sealing surfaces, plungers and other parts of the civil industry, as well as the manufacture of new products such as agricultural machinery, construction machinery, mining machinery, rails, and molds, and the repair of old parts.
