       Coating design is the core of spraying, and the quality of design is directly related to the success or failure of coating application. Therefore, the coating design should comprehensively consider various indicators. There are roughly the following steps:

    (1) Analyze the working conditions and parts performance, understand the failure causes and requirements for coating performance;

    (2) Design materials (including base material type, composition, function, shape, structure, etc.);

    (3) Design coating type according to working conditions, failure mechanism and other factors;

    (4) List the optional coating materials according to the designed coating type and workpiece conditions;

    (5) Analyze the compatibility of the material to be selected and the base material, combine the underlying material, possible thermal spraying methods, etc., and conduct laboratory or field tests if necessary;

    (6) Considering the service life, cost and factory conditions comprehensively, determine the coating material;

    (7) Design coating structure, performance, thickness, etc.;

    (8) The type of surface pretreatment process recommended for the base material;

    (9) Recommend the process method for preparing the coating;

    (10) Recommended post-spraying treatment process;

    (11) Formulate specific operating procedures and inspection standards.
