Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland has developed a new technology to make pure diamond optical diffraction grating. These new originals can be used to change the wavelength of high-performance lasers and can also be applied to advanced spectrometers.

Researchers at the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland, have developed a new method of cutting diamonds into shapes and polishing them with a microscope. On September 5, 2017, this technology was introduced at the International Diamond and Carbon Materials Conference. This new technology is unique to spectroscopy and high-energy laser optics.

Like a prism, the diffraction grating consists of parallel thin grooves that disperse the light into spectral components. The diffraction grating, made of glass and silicon, can change the color of the laser.
